Northern NSW Drum Corp

The aim of the Northern NSW Pathfinder Drum Corp is to provide a fun, faith-filled environment where children can grow musically, develop responsibility, and embrace Christian values through rhythm and teamwork. Our vision is to create a platform where young people can use music to serve, inspire, and connect with their communities.

At this stage, our drum corp comprises of several Pathfinder clubs including Central Coast Tongan, Charlestown and Newcastle Multicultural.  Should your child be interested, they can either remain in their Pathfinder club and be part of of our combined NNSW Drum Corp OR alternatively join one of our Pathfinder clubs to be involved in our individual club drum corps.

Expectations for Participation

  1. Your child must be of Pathfinder age at a minimum of 10 years old and be willing to consider being part of one of our Pathfinders Clubs where we may perform for our community or church events with (for more info on Pathfinders, see here).

  2. A willingness to learn and develop skills on a chosen marching percussion instrument (e.g., snare, multi tom, or bass drum).

  3. A positive and encouraging attitude toward both individual and team learning.

  4. Ability to meet the physical demands of marching or standing for extended periods during practices and performances.

  5. Commitment to fortnightly/monthly practice sessions (specific times to be confirmed) during school terms.  Aiming for once a month combined session practice with other Northern NSW drum corps in the region.

  6. Daily home practice using materials provided by the leader team, supported by parental encouragement.

  7. Participation in church and community events where the Drum Corp will perform.

  8. Care and responsibility for all provided instruments and equipment.

  9. Understanding that instrument damage due to misuse may incur replacement costs.

  10. An instrument cost will be required for your child, with the cost of your instrument able to be done with one of the following options below:

    • Option 1 - Our drum corp to purchase the instrument on your behalf with charity pricing (See here for details) by our NNSW Drum Corp and you can deposit the funds to our allocated bank account.

    • Option 2 - You can source the instrument for your child on your own via our preferred supplier Engadine Music or your own provider.

    • Option 3 - Should you require financial assistance, we can work out a shared cost arrangement. 

  11. Parents/guardians may occasionally need to assist with transport to events. Carpooling will be organised where possible.

*** We recommend each child to purchase a practice drum pad and sticks to begin their rhythmic journey (see here for ones we use).
